Well, the new year isn't starting out so good. I arrived home last night to see the trash men left the trash cans in my driveway such that I could NOT pull in. So I pulled right up to them, blocking the road and got out to move them aside so I could pull in. I saw somebody coming the other way but stupid me I ASSUMED they would see a silver SUV blocking the road and they would have to stop.
You know what happens when you assume? That's right, you stand in your driveway and watch as a full size van hammers your car at 45 mph. He didn't even hit the brakes. The guy obviously wasn't paying attention. One of the first things he said was he never saw my car until the last second. He also said he lost his cell phone. Hmmmmm.
I got pretty irate over this and getting the whole situation solved will probably be hell but getting angry won't help. All I can do is look on the bright side. I've learned to be more careful on the roads and never give any driver the benefit of the doubt they're paying attention. I'll be more careful in my car, on my bike, and when I'm working on my yard out by the street. Perhaps the lesson I've learned will save my life someday.
